Influence of Structural Transformations on the Mechanical Properties of Welded Joints of Armor Steels

  • Published:
Materials Science Aims and scope

We experimentally constructed and computed thermokinetic diagrams of decomposition of supercooled austenite of Ramor-500 and Armox-500 armor steels. The temperatures of phase transformations, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the metal of the heat-affected zone are determined as a result of the simulation of thermal deformation welding at different cooling rates in a Gleeble-3800 installation. We determine the limit values of the cooling rate when the metal of the near-weld zone of welded joints of these steels can be softened down to a level lower than the minimum guaranteed characteristics of strength of the base metal.
