Sources of Powerful Terahertz Radiation Based on Coherent Spontaneous Emission from Electron Bunches Formed by Photo Injectors

  • Published:
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics Aims and scope

We discuss the concept of creating sources operated in the sub-terahertz/terahertz frequency range with a multi-megawatt power level and based on the coherent spontaneous emission of intense electron bunches. The possibility of forming such bunches is due to the development of modern photo injection systems. The results of theoretical analysis and computer simulation of the dynamics of electron bunches are reported and estimates of the parameters of high-power pulse sources in these ranges based on undulatory and cyclotron radiation mechanisms are presented.
