Abstract

The splashes that form on the surface of water bodies under the effect of strong winds have a considerable effect on evaporation, as well as on the exchange by heat and momentum and the transport of matter, e.g., salt aerosol, which affects clouds and precipitation. An important factor in this case is the height of splash rise and the time it spends in the air. In the case of rapidly moving splashes, these characteristics are difficult to evaluate because of the nonlinear law of resistance at high speed. An efficient calculation method is proposed, providing approximate explicit dependences of the parameters mentioned above on the initial speed and the size of splashes.
