Abstract

Abstract:

“As an engineer, definitions and parameters guide my work. Peter Charles, of Newman University in Birmingham, England, offers a definition for modernism that aligns with my experience: ‘It is experimental, formally complex, elliptical, contains elements of decreation as well as creation, and tends to associate notions of the artist’s freedom from realism, materialism, traditional genre and form, with notions of cultural apocalypse and disaster’ (2). As the world began to change during the pandemic, I observed similar elements of modernism in the academic world through the lens of a young biomedical scientist.”
