Generation of Nano-Outbursts in Pulsar Emission in the Crab Nebula

  • Published:
Astrophysics Aims and scope

This is a study of drift waves in the electron-positron plasma of the magnetosphere of a pulsar. It is shown that the nonlinear interaction of the drift waves with the plasma particles leads to the formation of small-scale structures. The cyclotron instability which develops in these structures may be the reason for the formation of the nano-outbursts discovered in the radio emission of a pulsar in the Crab nebula.
