Diode-End-Pumped Narrow-Linewidth Tm:YLF Laser with a Volume Bragg Grating and Double Fabry–Pérot Etalons

Abstract

A 2 μm laser has important applications and prospects in various fields such as LIDAR, material processing, environmental monitoring, and space communication, as well as fundamental researches. Being designed for the room-temperature operation, our Tm:YLF laser with L flat concave resonator incorporates a laser-diode end-pump setup, in which a volume Bragg grating and double Fabry–Pérot etalons serve as a line-width limiting element. With an injection power of 49.58 W, a maximum output power of 17.78 W is achieved with a center wavelength of 1908.55 nm and a linewidth limited from 2 to 0.1 nm. A corresponding slope efficiency of 42.89% and an optical–optical conversion efficiency of 35.86% are obtained.
