ABSTRACT:
When he was a young man, during 1950s and '60s, Krishna Pada Sinha Roy did not wear shoes. It was common where Roy lived, a rural district of the Indian state of West Bengal called Birbhum, to go barefoot. But not for someone like Roy: he came from line of aristocrats who made themselves into bankers, contractors, and politicians.
