Formation of Silver Nanoparticles in Aqueous Oligochitosan Solutions

Abstract

Formation of stable silver dispersions with a unimodal particle size distribution has been studied in aqueous solutions of oligochitosans with different molecular masses. The character of the interaction of oligochitosans with silver ions and nanoparticles has been revealed. Spectral studies have shown that hydroxyl and amino groups of oligochitosans are involved in the formation and stabilization of the aqueous dispersions containing metal nanoparticles with sizes of 45–90 nm. Such dispersions are promising for biomedical applications.
