Abstract
Classical paradigms of research often follow a tradition that leaves out the lives of many minoritized and racialized communities. Many Research I universities exist as social bubbles, with little interaction with the communities that surround them. The research that these universities conduct often objectifies communities and does not address the important questions they have. This article shares how a participatory action research (PAR) collaborative was founded and developed, and the projects in which we engaged, and discusses how this approach is situated within the research/academic paradigm within universities.

Los paradigmas clásicos de la investigación a menudo siguen una tradición que excluye la vida de muchas comunidades minorizadas y racializadas. Numerosas universidades clasificadas como Research I existen en burbujas sociales y tienen poca interacción con las comunidades que las rodean. Las investigaciones que estas universidades llevan a cabo con frecuencia deshumanizan a las comunidades y pasan por alto sus inquietudes más apremiantes. Este artículo explica cómo se fundó y elaboró un colectivo de investigación-acción participativa (IAP). Presentamos los proyectos en los cuales trabajamos y explicamos cómo este método se sitúa dentro del paradigma de la investigación académica en las universidades.
