Abstract

A concept on how to use a power source of the type of reactors for nuclear thermal propulsion in the Earth’s defense system under condition of asteroid-comet hazard is presented. The concept is verified by unique results obtained in the field of physics and thermal physics for reactors and technologies for designing prototypes under performance of the state program on developing nuclear propulsion in the Soviet Union. The created reactor IRGIT, which is the prototype of the nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP), and the reactor IVG, which is the model of high-power NTP reactor, are examined as basic reactors for two lines.
