Abstract

A novel coordination polymer based on Co(II) was synthesized by reacting Co(NO3)2·6H2O with H2DCTP in the existence of a second nitrogen-donor L ligand through a mixed-ligand approach. Its chemical formula is [Co2(OH)(L)(DCTP)1.5]n (1, H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid and L = 1,3-bis[5,6-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl]propane). Biological experiments were conducted for the evaluation of the compound’s protective effect on brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Neuron-specific enolase and adrenomedullin contents were determined. Furthermore, the expression levels of tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 in the brain tissue were measured by Western blot after treatment with the compound. Molecular docking study indicated that the carboxyl groups on the p-dichlorobenzene were the main active groups that reacted with the target protein, whereas nitrogenous groups were the supportive groups for the entire metal complex.
