Abstract

A new species of Sisyrinchium, endemic to the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is described and illustrated. Sisyrinchium anarosae is distinguished from other Mexican taxa of section Echthronema by its decumbent, branched floral stem, in which the first nodes of the primary axis develop leaves with similar features to the basal ones, which in contact with the substrate produce roots, functioning as vegetative propagation structures, and by its inflorescence with 2 to 12 terminal rhipidia, with 2 to 4 flowers each. The description of this taxon increases to 45 the number of species of the genus that inhabit Mexico.
