Abstract
The results of analysis of variations in the mean annual and minimal runoff in the autumn–winter and summer dry seasons in the Don Basin are discussed. The space and time regularities in the changes of the mean annual and mean minimal 30-day runoff have been studied, and the dates of disturbances in the heterogeneity of runoff observation series have been determined. The results of statistical analysis of data on long-term variations of runoff of medium-size rivers in the Don Basin have been used to evaluate the rate of present-day climate-induced variations in river runoff in the area and to propose new ideas regarding the choice of approaches to runoff calculation, depending on the character of disturbance of the stationarity in the observation series.
