Data ArticleA comparative study of the antioxidant activity of two Moroccan prickly pear cultivars collected in different regions

Rationale
Lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits can intensively increase the production of reactive oxygen species in the human body which can create a disorder between the generation of these species and the body's antioxidant defenses [1]. This imbalance is called oxidative stress, which can cause various pathologies such as incurable cancers and cardiovascular diseases. For prevention, we need to look for a way to prevent oxidative stress and to seek additional intake of antioxidant compounds. In
Plant materials sites
Morocco is a country located in North West Africa. It is characterized by a very different climate depending on the region. In this work, we harvested the plant materials in different regions; each region is characterized by specific geographic coordinates and a type of climate. El Ajhar et al. [13], showed in their study the classification of the types of climates of regions of Morocco according to precipitation during the 1980–2015 period (Table 1). Therefore, the regions Rabat, Taza, and Al
Data, value and validation
Medicinal plants, especially cereals, fruits, vegetables, are the subject of numerous studies for their potential role in the prevention and control of human diseases. They give us a wealth of all kinds of phytochemical compounds as well as an excellent nutritious diet beneficial for health, the treatment of chronic patients becomes exploited bioactive compounds such as antioxidants that have a potential for scavenging free radicals in the human body. The added value of natural antioxidants
Conclusion
Some studies indicated that the consumption of vegetables and fruits can neutralize free radicals of the body thanks to the antioxidants which they contain. This can help in the prevention or treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress. For this reason, this study includes the different parts (flowers, cladodes, seeds) of both cultivars of Moroccan cactus. through, its phenolic compounds and its antioxidants. The highest yield is obtained by seeds extract from Tiznit (16.42%).
