The Role of the Shell Structure in the Formation of Surface Tension in Atomic Nuclei

  • Published:
Moscow University Physics Bulletin Aims and scope

Abstract

The surface tension coefficients \(\sigma\) of even–even nuclei with \(10<A<212\) were estimated by using their dependence on the nuclear rigidity. The values of the nuclear rigidity were calculated based on the data on the mean squared deformation of nuclei. The correlation of the values of \(\sigma\) with the structure of the neutron and proton subshells was investigated. The connection of the surface tension with the nuclear deformation was revealed.
