Choosing Power-Supply Circuits for Electrothermal Gasification of Solid Fuels

Abstract

Power-supply circuits for electrothermal gasification of carbon-containing solid materials are considered. Mathematical models and experimental studies have made it possible to determine the main parameters of three- and six-electrode units having a higher electrical efficiency and power factor, and are appropriate for graphitized electrodes, which are simpler and more reliable in operation. The effect of different power-supply circuits for multielectrode units on the resistance and electric field of the baths is studied. It has been found that symmetric multiphase power-supply circuits with a minimum phase difference between the potentials of adjacent electrodes are most efficient for the case of multielectrode furnaces.
