A radio-absorbing glass that is transparent in the visible range of the spectrum was developed. A radio-protective effect was obtained by implanting in the surface layer of the glass, not exceeding 100 nm, accelerated transition-element ions that form in the glass nanoparticles which absorb electromagnetic radiation. Measurements of the absorption of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) by implanted model and sheet glasses showed that the attenuation of EMR power is in the range of 6.2 – 30.2 dB for phosphate glass and 7.8 – 34.1 dB for silicate glass. The greatest radio-protective effect is observed in glasses with implanted nickel Ni+ and cobalt Co+. The EMR absorption can be increased to 37.5 dB by means of heat treatment.
