Synthesis Conditions and Structure of Layered Manganites Ln2BaMn2O7 – δ(Ln = Pr, Nd)

Abstract

Conditions (temperature, oxygen partial pressure in the gas atmosphere, and heating time) for the synthesis of polycrystalline layered manganites Ln2BaMn2O7 – δ (Ln = Pr, Nd) with an orthorhombic structure (Fmmm) and a specific oxygen non-stoichiometry were proposed for the first time. The temperature boundaries for the orthorhombic (Fmmm) to tetragonal (I4/mmm) structural phase transition were determined using high-temperature X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The temperature of the structural transition increases with increasing atomic number of the rare earth metal present in the manganite.
