Abstract

AlxCr1 – xN coatings of 2–4 μm thickness obtained via cathodic arc evaporation using AlxCr1 – x cathodes with x = 0, 0.5, 0.7, and 0.8 were studied. The influence of the chemical composition of coatings on topographical, mechanical, tribological, and corrosion properties was studied. It was found that the addition of aluminum to CrN coatings reduces the lattice parameter and crystallite size, increases the roughness, and improves corrosion properties. It was established that all coatings are wear-resistant, the lowest specific volumetric wear was 2.1 × 10–17 m3/(N m) in macro tests and 2.6 × 10–14 m3/(N m) in microcontact conditions for Al0.70Cr0.30N, coatings showed high values of adhesion strength.
