Abstract

The empirical prediction on the phase formation in as-cast (CuFeMnNi)1−xCrx alloys was consistent with the previous experimental results, which indicated that the BCC phase formed in the alloys was in the thermodynamically unstable state. The corrosion resistance of the alloys in 2 wt% HNO3 solution was increased with the increased Cr content which was mainly related to the formation of large anode and small cathode, increasing total volume fraction of Cr-rich FCC1 and BCC phases, the more uniform distribution of Cu and decreasing relative Cu content. The (CuFeMnNi)0.75Cr0.25 alloy exhibited an excellent corrosion resistance dominated by localized corrosion, while the CuFeMnNi alloy showed the worst corrosion resistance. Moreover, the strength of the investigated alloys increased while the ductility decreased with the increasing of Cr content, revealing that the extrinsic features played a more important role in the fracture behavior than the intrinsic features.
