ZERO/ONE-DIMENSIONAL COORDINATION COMPLEXES BASED ON CARBOXYLATE AND MULTINITROGEN DONOR LIGANDS: STRUCTURAL DIVERSITY AND PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION OF ORGANIC DYE

Abstract

Two new coordination complexes with the chemical formula [Co(bpda)(bimb)(H2O)](H2O)(CH2Cl2) (1) and {[Co(bdc)(bimb)](H2O)2(DMF)}n (2) are successfully prepared by the reaction of Co(NO3)2·6H2O and the 6,6′-bis(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine (bimb) ligand with different carboxylate ligands (4,4′-([3,4′-bipyridine]-2′,6′-diyl)dibenzoic acid (H2bpda) for 1 and terephthalic acid (H2bdc) for 2. The two as-prepared complexes are further analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction. In addition, the photocatalytic activity of complex 2 towards the degradation of methyl violet (MV) in polluted water is explored.
