Abstract—
Two types of structures are found in the bulk of polymer films up to 500 nm thick (globular homogeneous and in the form of molecular aggregates). The transition from one structure to another takes the form of changes in the surface roughness and physical and chemical characteristics of the material. The high anisotropy of the films’ refractive index (Δn ~ 10−2) and the results from polarization and optical studies are explained by the presence of large aggregates of macromolecules in the bulk of the films.
