Pharmacological Properties of Preparations Based on Astragalus Extract (Review)

  • MEDICINAL PLANTS
  • Published:
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal Aims and scope

The literature on the pharmacological properties of preparations based on chemical compounds from Astragalus L. species is reviewed. Special attention is paid to preparations from A. membranaceus that showed the ability in experimental and clinical studies to activate telomerase and increase the telomere length. The antioxidant activity of Astragalus extract and its chemical constituents and the antioxidant properties of preparations based on it are examined in detail. The potential of further research to determine the pharmacological properties of other representatives of this genus is discussed.
