Influence of Silicate Nucleation Agent Modified with Polyvinylpyrrolidone on the Morphology and Properties of Polypropylene

  • Published:
Materials Science Aims and scope

According to the results of X-ray and complex thermogravimetric analyses, we establish the influence of nucleation agents based on polyvinylpyrrolidone and sodium liquid glass on the morphology of polypropylene. It is shown that the introduction of nucleation agents increases the degree of crystallinity of polypropylene and promotes a decrease in the sizes of crystallites. In this case, the most pronounced effect is exerted by the nucleation agent based on the codeposited polyvinylpyrrolidone and sodium liquid glass. It is also established that the changes in the structure of the material lead to the improvement of its physicomechanical and thermal properties, in particular, of the tensile strength, surface hardness, Vicat heat resistance, and Shram–Tsibrovsky high-temperature strength.
