X-ray Spectroscopic Studies of the Atomic and Electronic Structure of the PANI/Cu Nanocomposite

Abstract

X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy (XANES; NEXAFS is used for soft X-rays) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are used to study the local structure of the PANI/Cu nanocomposite obtained in the polymerization of aniline by chemical oxidation in the presence of copper-chloride dihydrate without the addition of acid. Copper in the composite is divalent and copper atoms with different local environments are present. Polyaniline is oxidized and protonated during the formation of the nanocomposite. Protonation occurs through imine groups.
