Improvement of the Precision of Pipes with the Use of Profiled Pipe Billets

  • Published:
Metallurgist Aims and scope

We propose a technology for the production and piercing profiled pipe billets with an aim to improve the precision of hollow billets and pipes. To obtain profiled billets, it is reasonable to use a three-roll primary mill with specially designed rolls and profiling ridges. Both computer simulations carried out by using the QForm 3D program and the results of experimental rolling carried out at the Chair of Metal Forming of the “MISiS” University reveal an increase in the precision of the wall thickness of the hollow billets.
