Abstract

The reaction of phthalimide with zinc acetate gave a previously unknown three-unit condensation product 3-[(E,Z)-{(E,Z)-3-[(1-hydroxy-1-methyl-1H-isoindol-3-yl)methylene]isoindolin-1-ylidene}methyl]-1H-isoindol-1-one. Heating the latter with 2-methylquinoline and zinc oxide followed by treatment with sulfuric acid resulted in the synthesis of 5-(quinoline-2-yl)tetrabenzoporphyrin, which was used to synthesize heteroligand sandwich complexes of lanthanum, neodymium, gadolinium, erbium, and lutetium, containing a phthalocyanine fragment. The spectral properties and thermal stability of the sandwich complexes linearly depend on the ionic radii of the metals. The synthesized complexes are more sensitive to oxidation than lanthanide diphthalocyaninates.
