Prospects of Hardening of Steels and Alloys in a High-Pressure Gas Environment

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The paper discusses the application potential of quenching in high-pressure nitrogen with respect to mediumand high-alloy steels, as well as precipitation-hardening alloys. A procedure for predicting the structure and properties of steels and alloys after quenching is proposed. It is shown that gas quenching provides a high level of mechanical properties while maintaining the geometry of the precision products due to elimination of surface oxidation.
