Pressure Loss along the Channel of a Tubular Membrane during the Ultrafiltration of Liquid Media

Abstract

Pressure loss during the ultrafiltration of liquid media in a tubular membrane module has been studied. The pressure loss along a narrow channel is found by solving a system of differential equations proposed by Hwang and Kammermayer. The system is solved by the Laplace transform. The head loss was shown to depend on the surface area, porosity, and pore radius of the membrane, as well as on the viscosity and volumetric flow rate of the liquid. The equation enables one to take into account the head loss in engineering design of tubular ultrafiltration plants.
