Abstract
The results of comparative studies of the wear resistance of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in friction pairs with carbon and alloy steels are presented. The loads and their corresponding contact temperatures at which high wear of UHMWPE occurs are determined. It is shown that in a friction pair with alloy steel, there is a significant shift to the left of the upper limit of the range of workloads. An explanation for the dependence of the width of the range of UHMWPE workloads on the steel grade of the counterbody is proposed.
