Abstract

A method for calculating fluctuations in the nonequilibrium plasma-containing random inhomogeneities is developed. Using this method, the fluctuation spectrum in the region of the plasma line is calculated for the case of large-scale inhomogeneities with their characteristic dimensions exceeding the length of plasma waves. The results obtained are valid for both strong and weak inhomogeneities. It is shown that even in the case of weak inhomogeneities the induced broadening of the spectrum can significantly exceed the broadening connected with the Landau damping and electron collisions. Therefore, when experiments on plasma diagnostics using the Thomson scattering technique are interpreted, it is necessary to take into account the influence of random inhomogeneities on the fluctuation spectrum.
