Blackcurrant waikavirus A, a new member of the genus Waikavirus, and its phylogenetic and molecular relationship with other known members

Abstract

A new member of the family Secoviridae was discovered in a symptomatic American blackcurrant plant. In-silico analysis of the genome of the virus, blackcurrant waikavirus A (BCWVA), predicted two open reading frames (ORFs). ORF1 encodes a polyprotein with conserved domains of a leader protein, three capsid proteins, a superfamily 3 viral helicase, a 3C- protease and a RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). The second ORF, ORFX, encodes a 9.4 kDa protein of unknown function. The putative proteins showed the highest amino acid identities with the bellflower vein chlorosis virus orthologs and phylogenetic analysis based on the conserved RdRp region of the members of Secoviridae grouped BCWVA within the genus Waikavirus.
