Commentary There are 2 distinct pathways for colon cancer to develop. The first pathway is the adenoma-to-carcinoma sequence. This pathway is a result of cumulative mutations that lead to cancer development, including inactivation of the APC gene, oncogenic K-ras mutation, and inactivation of TP53. The second pathway is the serrated pathway, which results in colon cancer through DNA microsatellite instability, BRAF mutation, and DNA
