Abstract

A multiband hexagonal antenna for application in wireless communication using Koch curves have been investigated in this paper. Antenna has been designed and fabricated on low cost FR4 epoxy substrate having its thickness 1.6 mm and whose value of dielectric constant is 4.4. In this paper, we used inset cut transmission line feeding technique so that proposed antenna can exhibit multiband operation. The proposed antenna without inset cuts feeding technique operates on dual frequency bands, i.e. 3.31 GHz and 9.61 GHz. However, on employing the inset feeding technique the proposed antenna works satisfactory on four frequency bands such as 3.36 GHz, 5.61 GHz, 8.58 GHz and 9.48 GHz respectively. The design is simulated on high frequency simulation software (HFSS v13 software). Comparative analysis of both the feeding techniques on the performance parameters such as return loss, VSWR, gain, bandwidth and radiation pattern have investigated and highlighted in this paper. Performance parametric study clearly reveals that the proposed hexagonal antenna using inset feeding technique exhibit multiband operation, better gain and have multidirectional radiation pattern than the antenna without inset feeding technique. The novelty of this design offers miniaturization or smaller size of the antenna and it exhibit multiband operation in comparison to antennas described in literature.
