Correction to: Nature Structural and Molecular Biology https://doi.org/10.1038/s41594-019-0318-7, published online 21 October 2019.

In the version of this article initially published, some related previous results were not cited. The eighth paragraph of main text began, “The third, 4.75-Å resolution structure of TRPV3Y564A at 37 °C exhibits C2 symmetry, unlike the other TRPV3 structures, which have C4 symmetry”. This text should read, “The third, 4.75-Å resolution structure of TRPV3Y564A at 37 °C exhibits C2 symmetry, as seen previously in a ligand-bound TRPV3 structure10”. A new ref. 27 has been inserted and subsequent references renumbered; the new reference is Zubcevic, L., Borschel, W. F., Hsu, A. L., Borgnia, M. J. & Lee, S.-Y. Elife 8, e47746 (2019). In the penultimate paragraph of the main text, after “The C terminus appears to function as a latch that structurally supports the closed and sensitized states and that needs to be released for the channel to open,” a new sentence has been inserted: “This mechanism resembles the regulatory switch previously proposed for TRPV327.” Later in the same paragraph, the sentence “Mutating R226 resulted in increased channel activity27” has been changed to “Mutating any of these residues altered channel activity27,28”. The HTML and PDF versions of the article have been corrected.
