Mesoscale structure of microplankton and mesoplankton assemblages under contrasting oceanographic conditions in the Catalan Sea (NW Mediterranean)
2014, Journal of Marine SystemsCitation Excerpt :Dinoflagellates were identified to species or genus only in the large and easily recognizable forms, particularly in the genus Ceratium. Although Gómez et al. (2010) assigned all marine Ceratium species to the new genus Neoceratium based on molecular and morphological criteria, we have not used this new genus for practical reasons, and because discussion among specialists remains (Calado and Huisman, 2010; Lasternas et al., 2011). In the microplankton fraction, small sized dinoflagellate cells difficult to determine to genus level constrained by the resolution of light microscopy and the fixation with formalin were grouped as Dinoflagellates (others).
