Density functional theory is used to investigate the quantum capacitance and work function (WF) of OH-terminated MXenes with 3d, 4d, d transitional metals. MC(OH) MXenes are potential candidates as thermionic electron emitters due to low WFs. ScC(OH), CrC(OH), YC(OH), and LuC(OH) are considered as negative electrodes in aqueous system, and MC(OH) (M = Mo, V) are more promising positive electrodes.
