An electrolyte that conducts both oxygen ions and protons has the potential to enable a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) to operate at lower temperatures with a variety of fuels. Now a composite cathode conducting electrons, oxygen ions, and protons shows promise for high-performance SOFC at T < 600°C.
