To the general public, the term grey matter is almost synonymous with the brain, although this prominence comes at the expense of white matter, which has a much lower profile. But for Bernard Zalc and Florence Rosier, white matter is like white gold, forming rich milky veins through our brains, with its own vital role and its own mysteries to explore. In Myelin: The Brain's Supercharger they attempt to shed some light on these mysteries and make a case for this long-neglected white gold.
