A new strategy is reported to overcome the limited applicability of metal-free photocatalysts by implementing four exposed alkyne groups on the well-known structure motif of 4CzIPN. It is demonstrated that the modification enables the synthesis of new organic photocatalysts with unique redox features and paves the way for further targeted functionalisation.
