The depletion of finite primary fossil fuels makes necessary a progressive transition from finite primary fossil sources to alternative renewable raw materials to produce high value chemicals important for our everyday life. Greener processes must be designed to face the current challenge of climate change. In this context, organocatalysis offers a valuable opportunity for upgrading bio-derived platform compounds in the frame of green and sustainable chemistry.
