Insights into the charge transfer during water-jet charging process of meltblown nonwoven fabrics

Water-jet charging is one of the effectively methods to improve the filtration efficiency of polypropylene meltblown nonwoven fabric (PMNF) which is the core layer of face masks while its charging mechanism is still unclear. In this work, we directly investigate the charge transfer during the water-jet charging process by measuring charges carried by the water and PMNF in real time by using an electrostatic voltmeter and a portable petrol powered sprayer as the simulating water-jet charging equipment. Our work provides experimental evidences for understanding the charge transfer process during the water-jet charging treatment of PMNF and uncover the water-jet charging mechanism.
