Miniaturized omni-directional ZOR antenna with its co-equal circuit for 5G applications

This paper presents a hexagonal-shaped omni-directional Zeroth Order Resonator (ZOR) antenna for 5G application. 5G which is 1000 times faster than 4G technology, works on two frequency ranges- lower range (600 MHz to 6 GHz) and higher range (24–86 GHz). The antenna proposed works for lower range of 5G applications, operating at the resonant frequency of 5.76 GHz with − 10 dB bandwidth of 100 MHz. The co-equal circuit of the antenna is developed, and the simulated result is validated using circuit simulator software (Advanced Design System (ADS)). The radiation pattern of the antenna achieved have omni-directional pattern in xz-plane whereas it offers dipolar type pattern in yz-plane. The electric field distribution is uniform throughout the structure confirms the presence of ZOR frequency. The proposed antenna is tested inside the anechoic chamber. The measured and the simulated results obtained are almost similar with respect to each other. At last the presented ZOR antenna is compared with the recent state-of-the-art ZOR antenna used for lower applications of 5G (Mobile, WI-FI, Wireless communication).
