Dear reader,

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the world had faced enormous economical and scientific challenges. It was quite challenging to organize the 2nd Energy Security and Chemical Engineering Congress (ESChE 2021) at that period, but it was also a mission that all members of the organizing committee accepted in order to bring all the researchers continuing to work in such difficult working environments into one hub to present and discuss their findings. Looking at the numbers, contributions came from authors from different countries in Southeast Asia and worldwide. There were enormous numbers of creative research works that contributed significantly to the ESChE 2021 sustainable technology theme. The discussions and debates during the congress' live sessions were exciting and created magnificent collaboration opportunities between the scientists presenting their findings at the congress. It was pleasantly surprising that most of the scientific contributions and presented papers were addressing the technological challenges of the post-COVID times. Novel contributions were spotted and discussed and helped introducing new research fields that will be implemented by the researchers in their upcoming works.

Within the topic of “Sustainable Technological Solution for a Better World” I am honored to introduce this special issue with carefully selected world-class research works. In this special issue, research works on different approaches are presented and discussed, including chemical engineering, energy security, and thermal engineering. A key focus of the present issue is to highlight the contribution of transport phenomena, reactions kinetics, environmental engineering, and natural products to extend our knowledge of the new contributions to fundamentals and their possible industrial applications. Many of the published articles in this special issue provide unique opportunities to start novel research that addresses the modern engineering challenges in terms of sustainability, environmental issues, and controlling phenomena explorations.
