Effect of Heat Treatment on Phase Transformation Texture and Mechanical Properties in Hot-Rolled High-Strength Steels

The effect of heat treatment on the phase transformation texture and mechanical properties of hot-rolled high-strength automotive steels with different chemical compositions is studied. The microstructure of the steels is analyzed after water quenching from 950°C and 30-min tempering at 450°C by optical and electron microscopy. The texture due to the phase transformations is studied by electron back scatter diffraction and orientation microscopy. The phase transformation texture is related directly to the mechanical properties, which depend on the chemical composition and on the mode of heat treatment of the steel. The chemical composition plays a determining role in formation of the final orientation components.
