Effect of the Thickness and Porosity of Electrodeposited Coatings on Their Protective Ability

Abstract

The influence of the thickness of electrodeposited coatings on their protective ability and porosity indicators is studied. Chemical nickel, zinc, and cadmium coatings 3–70 μm thick are investigated. The protective ability is estimated using the steady potential and the corrosion current. The thicknesses at which the coatings do not have through pores are determined. A correlation between the coating-thickness dependences of the porosity indicators and the electrochemical characteristics is determined.
