Development and Use of an Electromagnetic Unit for Controlling the Mechanical Properties along the Steel Vessel Height at the Exit from a Rolling–Pressing Line

Abstract

An electromagnetic property control unit (EPCU) has been designed and fabricated at the machine-building enterprise AO NPO Pribor for nondestructive testing of the mechanical properties along the height of cylindrical vessels with a bottom made of grade 50 steel after hot deformation on a rolling–pressing line. A schematic diagram is given, the functioning of the unit is described, and a technique for nondestructive testing of the physical and mechanical properties of vessels on EPCU is presented. This technique is based on measuring the electromagnetic indicators of the properties of steel on vertically arranged samples. Relationships between the mechanical and physical properties are experimentally obtained, and the corresponding regression equations are derived. The experimental results simplify obtaining information about the quality of products, which makes it possible in the future to decrease the cost of production of wrought vessels made of grade 50 steel as compared to traditional product quality control.
