Intrusive sampling of dust deposition in a granular bed filter-cyclone coupled separator

A separator coupling cyclone with a built-in granular bed filter is proposed for gas purification. Due to the complicated mutual influences between the outer cyclone shell and the inner granular bed, the dust deposition is different from that in the traditional granular bed filter. By using the intrusive sampling method, the dusts deposited in the bed are sampled under varying inlet dust concentrations and inlet gas velocities. It is implied that the outer screen of the built-in granular bed is more sensitive to the operating conditions. The dust concentration percentage in the inner bed increases less with the gas velocity. On the contrary, its distribution changes greatly along with the axial height. In addition, the local filtration efficiency changes slightly in the whole built-in granular bed under high inlet dust concentration. Based on the measured data, a new equation for estimating the local filtration efficiency is obtained.
