COVER PHOTO: In a recent study by Hoenle et al. (this issue; Article e2559; doi:10.1002/eap.2559), the authors investigated the recovery of ant communities in a tropical forest. Depicted here is an ant (Ectatomma tuberculatum) common to their research area in lowland Ecuador. It feeds from a nectary of an Inga plant, which attracts ants for protection against herbivores. This is one of manifold examples of the complex interaction between ants and plants, highlighting the central role of ants for forest recovery. Photo credit: Philipp Hoenle.
