Many thanks to the commentators for their constructive, critical and insightful extensions of my recent Journal of Information Technology (JIT) article ‘Robo-Apocalypse Cancelled? Reframing the Automation and Future of Work Debate’. In this response I will first address the commentaries. Normally that would be sufficient. However, the year 2020 saw major pandemic, and economic crises unfold across the globe. It is important to address how these events impact upon and need a further reframing of the debate, a case of the disruption (from automation) being disrupted (by the pandemic). As such, I am including an outlook on the impact of COVID-19 on the future of automation and work.
